Rottingdean village
Rottingdean village is nestled at the foot of the beautiful South Downs National Park and is a charming and friendly village centered around
a picturesque pond and village green. With a well-informed and active local population, this is no sleepy backwater but is home to a myriad of societies, clubs and social groups, and is liberally sprinkled with quaint, characterful and award- winning pubs, restaurants, local produce shops, and independent retailers. There is an annual fete, a popular spring music festival, and a summer season of open air music concerts held on the newly refurbished seafront terraces. In the nineteenth century the village became popular among artists, writers and politicians, with Rudyard Kipling being just one famous former resident, and it retains its literary and artistic ambiance.
The landmark black ‘Smock’ windmill sits on Beacon Hill nearby and mile upon mile of spectacular, rolling countryside provides the picture-perfect backdrop. Beneath the chalk cliffs runs a promenade that will take you as far as the Marina and is popular with walkers and cyclists alike.
